4. How to create S.M.A.R.T. goals in the ARMS System?
Goal templates are embedded into the ARMS system which are designed with the S.M.A.R.T method in mind. These templates should have been preconfigured by your program administrators during the setup and implementation process of ARMS for your organization. They are meant to help speed up the process of creating goals with tasks and resources that may be utilized to achieve those tasks. To learn more about the process of creating goal templates see the ‘MPE Prep Steps’ training course available in this Learning Management System (LMS).
The ARMS system will provide you with a list of suggested goal templates that are triggered by the responses in the REC-CAP assessment. So, after you and the client review the discovery map and discuss the goals the client is committing to, you will be brought to the ‘plan goals’ screen that has two sections with any suggested goal templates to choose from. Once the goal template is selected, it can be specifically tailored to the individual as this process is not meant to be prescriptive.
The goal templates are structured using the S.M.A.R.T. methodology mentioned previously. Your role is to help guide the client in the creation of a Recovery Care Plan that will grow Recovery Capital, however, it is important that the ownership of the Recovery Plan sits with the client. With this in mind, only goals that a client commits to should be added to the Recovery Plan. Usually, the client commits to goals during the discussion of the discovery map and their priorities, however, this may be different with each client so it is important to confirm their commitment to this plan at some point during your session.
